"...And did these feet in ancient times walk upon England's mountains green.  And was the Holy Lamb of God on England's pleasent pastures seen..."  For centuries, many stories have been passed down to explain where Jesus was during those fateful 18 years between the time he meet with the elders in the temple in Jerusalen at the age of 12 and when he reappeared to be baptized by John the Baptist at the age of 30.
Some speculate that he travelled throughout the Middle East, Europe and England.  Others suggest that he was secreted off to India where he studied and practiced  Hinduism.
Readers of the Gnostic Gospels and the Apocrypha are well aware of the stories of Jesus travelling to India after his "resurrection".  When St. Thomas was dispatched to India to "spread the good news", he found people already acquainted with this man known as Jesus.
What is true?  Who knows,  but we do know that there were teachers from the East in Egypt (some say Buddhist, some say Hindu) at the time the historical Jesus' family fled to Egypt to escape Herod's decree to destroy all first born male children (Jesus was estimated to be around two years old at the time).  We know, based on Biblical text,  that Jesus is not mentioned again until he was brought to the temple  in Jerusalm at the age of twelve.  The next time he appears he is in  his 30th year.
We also know that the Bible canon as it appears today was created by men who were completely under the influence of Pauline Christianity.  The fact the most of the New Testament is made up of the writing of St. Paul is no accident.  It was the political correctness of its day.

We will never know the real story about those lost years, but the possibilities are more exciting than the accepted reality.
